Rules at sober houses differ
If there are any changes to the sober home policies or sober home management, please notify MASH to update our files. An increase in beds will require an additional inspection to the sober home. Evidence that staff and residents model genuineness, empathy, and positive regard. Operator will attest that electrical, mechanical, and structural components of the property are functional and free of fire and safety hazards. Verification that kitchen and dining area(s) are large enough to accommodate all residents sharing meals together. Verification that a meeting space is large enough to accommodate all residents.
B. Core Principle: Uphold Residents’ Rights
Massachusetts boasts one of the best recovery environments in the United States, and certainly one of the strongest sober living communities in New England. Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing
At minimum, data collection will protect individual’s identity, be used for continuous quality improvement, be part of day-to-day operations, and regularly reviewed by staff and residents (where appropriate). MASH is an affiliate of NARR and used these standards to create Massachusetts standards for certified sober homes. Sober living home information is provided by sober house operators.
VSL works alongside MASH to support and equip Chartered Operators to strengthen their local communities through effective sober housing. In July 2014, Massachusetts passed legislation that mandates the monitoring and voluntary certification of Massachusetts sober homes. Effective September 1, 2016, state agencies and their vendors shall only be able to refer clients to certified alcohol and drug free (ADF) housing.
